BAE Systems Receives DHS Safety Act Designation for Infrared Cameras

17 Jul 2006 | Ref. 189/2006

LEXINGTON, Massachusetts -- BAE Systems has been awarded SAFETY Act designation and certification by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for its family of fixed-mount and handheld uncooled infrared cameras.

DHS designated BAE Systems' uncooled IR camera technology as a Qualified Anti-terrorism Technology under the SAFETY Act, which provides risk management protections to encourage development and deployment of anti-terrorism technologies that will substantially enhance the protection of the nation. The government also certified these cameras – the PMC300TM and LTC550TM fixed-mount IR cameras and the HHC100TM series of handheld IR cameras – as "approved products for homeland security."

SAFETY stands for Support Anti-terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies.

"The award of SAFETY Act designation and certification helps mitigate risk for BAE Systems in litigation that might result from an act of terrorism where our IR cameras are deployed," said Bill Collins, program manager, MicroIR® surveillance cameras for BAE Systems in Lexington, Mass.

BAE Systems is among fewer than 50 companies with products on which DHS has conferred SAFETY Act status since the legislation passed in 2002.
