GSA Approves General Dynamics as an Integrated HSPD-12 Service Provider

FAIRFAX, Va. – The General Services Administration (GSA) has approved General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), to provide integrated, end-to-end solutions for Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) implementations. This approval allows all federal agencies to begin procuring General Dynamics Information Technology’s services to address HSPD-12, the presidential mandate that will create a standard biometric identification card for all federal workers.

General Dynamics Information Technology’s approval was contained in an Office of Management and Budget (OMB) memorandum issued on June 30, entitled “Policy for a Common Identification Standard for Federal Employees and Contractors.”

“The federal government requires proven capabilities in order to meet the HSPD-12 deadlines,” said Scott Price, senior vice president of General Dynamics Information Technology. “This designation as an approved solution provider validates our work in secure credentials and identity management over the past 17 years, and assures our clients that General Dynamics Information Technology will continue to lead the market as they migrate to the new HSPD-12 standards.”

General Dynamics Information Technology offers the federal government a secure identification solution developed in anticipation of the Personal Identity Verification (PIV) components required by the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS-201).

Working for the past two years with the leading providers of secure identification products and technologies, General Dynamics Information Technology has developed a proven solution that has been fielded by the Department of Defense, federal civilian agencies, and state and local governments.

“The list of vendors that offer proven solutions that meet HSPD-12 requirements is very short,” said Price. “The government needs to be certain that an implementation has already demonstrated it can meet their needs from end to end. Identity-management implementations are not the time for vendor experimentation.”

General Dynamics Information Technology has implemented dedicated PIV credentialing, enrollment and card issuing systems in mobile as well as fixed environments to meet the needs of the federal government. Often, departments and agencies operate widely-dispersed facilities with just one or two employees, making dedicated systems impractical. The General Dynamics Information Technology Mobile ID Security vehicles – the first mobile solutions of their kind – provide PIV solutions directly to these customers, including:

* System Enrollment
* PIV Card Issuance
* Secure Satellite Linked Certificate Authority
* PKI Management and Card Activation.

“The federal government must work quickly to meet the HSPD-12 deadlines,” continued Price. “General Dynamics Information Technology is committed to delivering the right solutions right now – wherever they are required.”

GSA announced General Dynamics Information Technology’s approval as an integrated HSPD-12 service provider in the name of Anteon, which General Dynamics acquired in June 2006 and combined with General Dynamics Network Systems to form General Dynamics Information Technology.
