India, US to exchange experts to counter terrorism

The US Consul General, Henry Jardine said, "America would support regional stability and counter terrorism programs in India through training, funding and exchange of experts".

"To support regional stability, we would look at ways to cooperate with the Government of India or other governments in this region, may be through training, funding of programs, exchange of experts that we could help in this area", Jardine said at a meeting of management experts in Kolkata, last evening, PTI report said.

The US Consul General said the recent COPE-India joint air force training exercise at Kalaikunda was an example of this effort.

Jardine said in counter terrorism, sharing information, expertise or training, the US would support the ongoing work in this field in India.

Referring to the recent visit of US President George W Bush, the envoy said the many agreements signed in areas like science, agriculture and social development were result of the work of members of the US mission working here.

"With the growing importance of the India-US partnership, we are anticipating increasing out American staff by this summer and should see more growth in the years to come", he added.
