Explosion In Central Spain Linked to Basque Separatists
05 January 2006
Officials in central Spain say an explosion has rocked a hotel in the central province of Zaragoza, causing some damage.
Authorities say the explosion occurred early Thursday shortly after a telephone warning by the Basque separatist group ETA. There were no reports of injuries.
The ETA has often attacked hotels or major motorways during holiday periods in recent months.
ETA has been blamed for more than 800 deaths over nearly four decades as it pursued its campaign for creation of an independent Basque state in northern Spain and southwestern France.
Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP, and Reuters.
