The maneuvers are to run through 24 September.
It will be the first time since the collapse of the Soviet Union that Russian and Uzbek military forces train together without international supervision. They've previously trained together under a NATO program.
This time, Russian Lieutenant General Valerii Yevtukhovich, chief of staff of the Russian Airborne Forces, will supervise the maneuvers. Russia's military says the two sides are training together to refine their skills of blocking and destroying terrorist units.
