
Seabees Support JTF Katrina Operations

PORT HUENEME, Calif. (NNS) -- Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 40 has deployed 265 Seabees to the U.S. Gulf Coast as a part of Joint Task Force Katrina recovery operations, in support of Federal Emergency Management Agency efforts.
Approximately 200 personnel are set up at Joint Reserve Base New Orleans, with the remainder at Construction Battalion Center Gulfport, Miss.
Seabees currently in New Orleans are conducting damage assessments, emergent facility repairs, construction of a 500-man tent camp, airfield support operations and other assigned tasking.
Personnel in Gulfport are maintaining the command and control center and acting as logistics support - transporting tools and Civil Engineer Support Equipment to New Orleans as necessary, as well as supporting local damage repair.
The battalion will continue to deploy additional personnel to the Gulf Coast as needed.
