NAVHOSP Great Lakes Personnel to Support Hurricane Relief Effort

GREAT LAKES, Ill. (NNS) -- Naval Hospital (NH) Great Lakes activated a 13-person active-duty medical team Sept. 3, 2005.

The team will be directed to Naval Station Mayport, Fla., where they will serve aboard the hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) in support of Hurricane Katrina disaster relief efforts.

The medical team includes five registered nurses, two laboratory technicians, one respiratory technician and 5 general-duty Hospital Corpsmen.

In addition to providing support to Comfort, the NH Great Lakes hurricane support effort also includes a psychiatrist on orders to NH Jacksonville Fla., and a preventive medicine physician.

The exact duration of these deployments is not known at this point.
