U.S. Missions In Saudi Arabia Reopen

10 August 2005 (RFE/RL) -- U.S. diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia reopened today after closing for two days because of a threat of militant attacks.

An embassy spokesman said the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh and the consulates in the Red Sea city of Jeddah and the eastern city of Dhahran would resume operations today based on "further assessment" of the threat information available.

The missions were closed on 8 and 9 August because of what the U.S. Embassy said was a threat against U.S. government buildings in the kingdom.

Subsequently, the British and Australian governments warned their citizens that terrorists were planning attacks in Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi Interior Ministry said it had no information that a terror attack was imminent.
