Man held in connection with US newsman murder

A man, who lured a US journalist to meet Omer Saeed Sheikh, the murderer of Daniel Pearl, has been arrested in Pakistan, an official confirmed.

The Nation reported in its Friday's edition that Sayed Hashim has been detained, quoting the director general of the National Crisis Management Cell Brigadier Javed Iqbal Cheema as saying.

However, the newspaper added Cheema declined to disclose the whereabouts of Hashim.

The journalist, who was in Pakistan some two years ago, was killed in mysterious circumstances in Karachi, reports said.

According to reports, Hashim was arrested when he was on his way to Lahore from Gujranwala last Tuesday.
