EADS to deliver digital radio network for Brazilian federal police force

* First digital telecommunications system in Brazil
* Operation to begin in 2006

Munich, 03 June 2005

EADS will be delivering a digital radio network based on the Tetrapol standard to Brazil’s Departamento de Polícia Federal. The network will initially be set up in the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, and in the capital city of Brasilia, where it will begin operation in 2006.

The installation of this network will give Brazilian federal police authorities their first digital, failsafe, secure telecommunications system. This measure is part of a national programme to modernise the Brazilian federal police forces called PROAMATEC, the objective of which is to elevate the efficiency and capabilities of crime-fighting units by implementing the latest technology systems.

The EADS Defence and Communications Systems (DCS) Business Unit will not only be delivering technology systems for PROAMATEC, but will also be contributing its expertise as a systems integrator. “We are pleased to have won this contract, because it enables us to place not only our technical competence at the customer’s disposal, but also our project and system capabilities in the area of Homeland Security,” says Stefan Zoller, CEO of DCS.

EADS Defence and Communications Systems (DCS) was established as part of the EADS Defence and Security Systems Division to cater for new developments on the defence and security markets, which today are placing increasing emphasis on complete solutions and integrated systems.

EADS Defence and Security Systems, with revenues of about € 5.4 billion in 2004 and roughly 24,000 employees across ten nations, forms the defence pole within EADS. It offers integrated systems solutions to the new challenges confronting armed forces and homeland security units. It is active in the areas of military aircraft, missile systems, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) systems with manned and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), battlefield management systems, defence electronics, sensors and avionics, and related services.

EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2004, EADS generated revenues of € 31.8 billion and employed a workforce of about 110,000.
