ASTANA, February 25 (RIA Novosti) - The Prosecutor-General's Office of Kazakhstan addressed the Supreme Court of the republic with a request to recognize a number of organizations as terrorist ones and to prohibit their activity on Kazakhstan's territory.
As RIA Novosti was told in the press service of the Prosecutor-General's Office, listed among the organizations whose operation it is proposed to forbid in Kazakhstan are Asbat al-Ansar, the Moslem Brothers, Taliban, Boz Purd, Zhamayet of Mojahedeen of Central Asia, Lashkar-i-Taiba and Society of Social Reforms.
As the press service officials said, these organizations were earlier recognized as terrorist in Russia, the USA, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and a number of other countries. Some of them were recognized as terrorist ones by the UN Security Council, and were included in the consolidated list for applying sanctions. Besides that, some of the above-said organizations entered the list of the terrorist, separatist and extremist organizations whose activity is prohibited on the territory of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's member states.
In keeping with Kazakhstan's legislation, only the city court of the republic's capital can recognize a public association as terrorist and ban its activity.
