Ex-CIA chief won`t testify in Motassadeq retrial: DPA
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Berlin, Aug 11, IRNA -- Former CIA chief George Tenet will not testify in the retrial of Mounir al-Motassadeq who is accused of aiding the September 11 terror hijackers, DPA quoted Wednesday an American Justice Department letter as saying. Neither Tenet nor any other CIA officials are allowed to testify in the Hamburg courtroom. The ex-CIA head was reportedly on the witness list of the Hamburg court. Motassadeq`s conviction was surprisingly thrown out in March by a German appeals court which argued that critical evidence had been withheld by American officials. After having been sentenced to 15 years in jail, Motassedeq was freed in April. Legal observers also expect Motassadeq to be acquitted in his retrial, citing lack of evidence. OT/1432
