15 injured in twin blasts near US cultural center in Karachi

Islamabad, May 26, IRNA -- Two bombs planted in vehicles went off 
Wednesday near Pak-American Cultural Center in the Pakistani port city
of Karachi, injuring at least 15 people, a senior police officer 
said. 
Three police officer, press photographers and journalists are 
among those injured in the blasts, Deputy Inspector General of Police 
Tariq Jameel said. 
According to reports the first blast happened at 5:5 p.m, 
injuring one person. The second blast detonated after 15 minutes of 
the first blast at the same place, Jameel said. 
The vehicles were parked outside the Pak-American Cultural Center 
(PACC). 
Jameel said that three of the injured, including a police man, 
are in critical condition. 
He said that two other suspected cars were also parked in the 
area, and a bomb disposal team from the navy has been called to check 
the cars. 
The second blast was more severe than the first one, with which 
the vehicle was completely destroyed, reporters said. 
The blasts area was immediately cordoned off, while traffic 
diverted to other roads. 
Heavy contingency of the police and the personnel of law 
enforcing agencies accompanied by bomb disposal team rushed to the 
site. 
Ambulances and fire fighters rushed to the site and shifted the 
injured to hospital. 
Reports said that the residence of the American Consul General 
and Indian House are also located in the area. 
No one has claimed responsibility and police said they are 
investigating. 
Jameel did not offer any comment about the motives of the blasts 
as to whether they want to target the Pak-US cultural center. He said 
those might have behind the blasts, who are the target of the 
government`s action. 
At least three persons died and several others injured in a 
parcel bomb blast near the Karachi Port Trust on Tuesday. 
Karachi has seen deadly bomb blasts in recent weeks. 
More than 10 people were killed and up-to one hundred injured in 
a mosque blast in Karachi last week.
