Libya, Germany Disagree Over Disco-Bombing Compensation

Libyan and German officials have failed to reach an agreement in the latest round of talks to settle compensation claims for a Libyan-ordered disco bombing that killed three people and wounded more than 200 others.

Lawyers say another round of talks on the 1986 bombing in Berlin is planned for June.

Libyan leader Moammar Ghaddafi's charitable foundation has agreed to pay compensation to the victims, but the two sides remain at odds over the amount of the pay-out for the non-American victims of the bombing. Compensation for the American victims is subject to legal action in the United States.

In 2001, a German court ruled that the Libyan secret service organized the bombing, and convicted four people in the attack on the "La Belle" disco, which was popular with U.S. servicemen. Two Americans and a Turkish woman were killed in the bombing.
