VOICED AT:

INTRO: The U-S embassy in the United Arab Emirates shut down operations Wednesday after receiving a threat of a strike against it. V-O-A's Greg LaMotte in Cairo reports.

TEXT: The U-S embassy in the United Arab Emirates Wednesday would say a specific threat caused the suspension of operations at the embassy in the capital Abu Dhabi. No details regarding the threat were divulged.

Callers to the embassy there are receiving, in part, this message warning of possible attacks by the terror group al-Qaida.

/ / / ACT OF RECORDED MESSAGE / / /

We are seeing increasing indications that al-Qaida is preparing to strike U-S interests abroad. We expect al-Qaida will strive for new attacks designed to be far more devastating than the September 11th attack, possibly including non-conventional weapons, such as chemical and biological agents.. Terrorist actions may include, but not limited to, suicide operations, hijackings, bombings or kidnappings.

/ / / END TAPE RECORDED MESSAGE / / /

All U-S embassies remain on a heightened state of alert and periodically suspend operations when specific threats occur. (Signed)
