VOICED AT:

INTRO: A top leader of Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida terror network has warned the United States to prepare for more terrorist attacks. Kerry Sheridan reports from V-O-A's Middle East Bureau in Cairo.

TEXT: An Arab television station (Al Jazeera) broadcast portions of an audiotape, with a message of warning, purportedly from al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahri.

In the recording, the man's voice says President Bush lied when he said in a recent speech that more than two-thirds of the al-Qaida network have been killed or captured.

///AL-ZAWAHRI ACT IN ARABIC, EST. AND FADE ///

He says President Bush should strengthen his defenses, because al-Qaida is determined to send more terrorists like the ones who launched the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.

Earlier, another Arab television station (Al Arabiya) aired a recording, also purporting to be from the bin Laden deputy who lashes out at the French proposal to ban Muslim headscarves in public schools, calling it another sign of Crusader hatred that Westerners have against Muslims.

/// AL-ZAWAHRI ACT TWO IN ARABIC, EST. AND FADE ///

He also criticizes Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia, and other Muslim countries for being part of, what he called, a continuous campaign against Islam.

Officials believe the terrorist is in hiding somewhere near the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan, along with al-Qaida leader, Osama bin Laden. (SIGNED)
