The Spanish Ministry of the Interior is expanding its SIRDEE network with EADS systems
Madrid, 10 February 2004
The expansion of the supply and services contract for the SIRDEE (Sistema de Radiocomunicaciones Digitales de Emergencia del Estado) network of the Ministry of the Interior was approved during the last 12th of December Council of Ministers' meeting at a cost of 86,7 Mio euros. It will provide new telecommunications services and technologies to enhance the capacity and geographic coverage as well as the security, compatibility and coordination of police communications.
The SIRDEE network is the national mobile voice and data communications network for the National Police Forces and the "Guardia Civil" of the Spanish Ministry of the Interior and uses TETRAPOL digital security radio communications technology supplied by EADS TELECOM España as the infrastructure. Deployed since 2000, it is the largest operational national digital network for security forces in the world with 1000 base stations installed to date.
The Spanish Ministry of the Interior underlined that by means of this system the State Security Forces and Corps will be provided with a telecommunications service that will enhance their capacity and geographic coverage as well as the security, compatibility and coordination of police communications.
"This extension contract has a strategic importance since it confirms the confidence of the Ministry of the Interior in the EADS TETRAPOL solution for communications in the State Security Force and Corps. Extension to more provinces will also enable us to provide this network to a larger number of customers in need of secure communications, such as city councils, autonomous communities etc," says Eduardo Herranz, CEO of EADS TELECOM España.
The SIRDEE network in figures
Initial phase 2000 - 2003 | Extension December 2003 |
4 year contract | 1 year contract |
35 provinces | 11 provinces |
216.36 M EUR | 86.71 M EUR |
35,016 terminals | 7,845 terminals |
The TETRAPOL technology is the only radio communications solution deployed on a large scale that has proved its reliability and efficiency in situations of great importance that require HIGH SECURITY. There are currently 80 networks already deployed or under construction in 34 countries using technology based on the TETRAPOL standard, approved by the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) and the Police Cooperation Group (formerly Schengen Group). Many of these networks cover entire countries and provide total satisfaction to their users: RUBIS (French National Gendarmerie), ACROPOL (French National Police), SIRDEE in Spain, POLYCOM in Switzerland, SITNO in Slovakia, PHOENIX in Rumania and IRIS in Mexico.
Currently, the total area covered by TETRAPOL networks exceeds 1.4 million square kilometres and provides a service to 420,000 users. Once the deployment currently underway is completed TETRAPOL will provide services to a million users and cover an area of 4 million square kilometres.
