V-O-A's Greg LaMotte has the details from our Middle East bureau in Cairo. TEXT: On the final day of their two-day annual summit, the leaders of the six Gulf Arab states that make up the Gulf Cooperation Council, approved an agreement to coordinate their efforts in the war against terror. The agreement, reached during their meeting in Kuwait, follows a series of terrorist attacks in Saudi Arabia this year in which more than 50 people died and hundreds were wounded. In the final statement, read in the Kuwaiti capital, the council said it had an interest in boosting joint security cooperation and coordination to fight terror. An agreement among the council interior ministers is to be signed later. The council membership includes Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. The council also said that Saddam Hussein and his regime leadership should be tried before a war crimes tribunal. (SIGNED) NEB/GL/MAR/RAE |
