INTRO: President Bush has condemned the Tuesday car-bombing of a luxury hotel in Indonesia and is offering to help in the hunt for those responsible. V-O-A's Scott Stearns has the story.

TEXT: White House spokesman Scott McClellan condemned the Jakarta hotel bombing as a "deplorable attack on innocent civilians."

He says the Bush administration fully supports President Megawati Sukarnoputri's efforts to fight terrorism and stands ready to help her government "in any way" to bring those responsible to justice.

Mr. McClellan says he does not know who is responsible for the car-bombing of the U-S owned J-W Marriot hotel in Indonesia's capital. He says information is still being gathered about the attack and the violence is what he calls, "a reminder" that the global war against terrorism continues.

The bombing came two days before a court is expected to hand down its first verdict in the trials of Islamic militants accused of organizing October's bombing of a nightclub in Bali, which killed more than 200 people.

Mr. McClellan briefed reporters in Crawford, Texas where President Bush is vacationing at his ranch where he meets Tuesday with Secretary of State Colin Powell. (SIGNED)
