ATTORNEY GENERAL TO VISIT WASHINGTON TO DISCUSS SITUATION
OF GUANTANAMO BAY DETAINEES

As announced in the statement following the discussions between
President George Bush and the Prime Minister, the Attorney General,
Lord Goldsmith, will lead a high-level delegation to Washington from
20 to 22 July to discuss with the US Administration the legal issues
surrounding the nine UK detainees at Guantanamo Bay, including our
strong reservations about the Military Commissions. The Attorney
General will be accompanied by legal advisers and officials from his
