At least five suspected terrorists and two Saudi security officers have been killed in a shootout in the holy city of Mecca.
Saudi Arabia's interior ministry said the shootout happened Saturday night when Saudi police stormed an apartment building in Mecca's Khaldiya district.
Authorities said several suspects were arrested, and large amounts of explosives and weapons were found in the apartment.
The semi-official Okaz daily newspaper reported Sunday that a total of 10 people were killed in the gunfight. Okaz said those involved in the Saturday night shootout had fled to the apartment building after a car chase with police.
The newspaper did not say whether the suspects were linked to last month's suicide bomb attacks in the capital, Riyadh. The blasts killed 35 people, including nine Americans.
