INTRO: A U-S federal jury in Detroit (Michigan) has found two Arab immigrants guilty of conspiring to support Muslim terrorists plotting attacks against the United States and its allies, Jordan and Turkey. Correspondent Nick Simeone tell us more about the case.

TEXT: In all, four Arab immigrants -- three from Morocco, one from Algeria -- were charged with conspiring to help launch a holy war against the United States and its pro-American Muslim allies, Jordan and Turkey.

On Tuesday, a Detroit jury found two of the four guilty of conspiracy in that alleged plot through the use of fraudulent visas and other documents. A third was acquitted of terrorist-related charges but was convicted of conspiring to commit fraud. A fourth was acquitted.

The case began six days after the September 11th terrorist attacks on the United States two years ago when authorities carried out a raid on a Detroit apartment, pursuing a tip about someone on a terrorist watch list.

There, they found a calendar which prosecutors said mentioned alleged terrorist targets including the U-S airbase at Incerlik, Turkey and a hospital in Amman, Jordan. Also recovered were videotapes which prosecutors said appeared to show the accused surveilling American landmarks for possible attack, including Disneyland in California and top hotels in Las Vegas.

Those convicted Tuesday face up to 15 years in prison. (SIGNED)
