LONDON, UK, May 29th, 2002 -- Today the London Metropolitan Police Service announced that it had selected Lockheed Martin to provide systems integration services to support the implementation of its new Command, Control, Communications and Information [C3I] System, which will update and consolidate the existing 32 Borough Control Rooms and the Emergency Response 999 service provided through New Scotland Yard. The Metropolitan Police Service C3i contract is expected to run for an initial three-year period with options to extend. The focus of the C3i project is the business transformation of police service delivery to metropolitan London. A key aspect of the project will consolidate the activities of 32 Borough Control Rooms into three new centralised and highly co-ordinated operations centres. The new three-centre command structure will be located at Lambeth, Hendon, and Bow Road. The objectives of this project include the optimisation of critical Police resources, more efficient provision and management of MPS information, greater resilience and capacity for provision of police services, and ultimately, improved safety for both the citizens and Police of London.

Toby Harris, Chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority, said, "Letting this major contract is the first concrete step in implementing a radical overhaul in the way the Metropolitan Police handles calls from the public."

Ailsa Beaton, Director of Information, Metropolitan Police Service said, "The award of this contract to Lockheed Martin is a milestone in this hugely important project. Lockheed Martin has extensive experience of systems integration with both the private and public sector in complex and fast moving environments and has a clear understanding of the operational environment of C3i. Their involvement in the project enables us to move forward with our plans to create a command and control structure that will meet our future needs for policing London."

Lockheed Martin's role in providing the system integration services to the Metropolitan Police, is anticipated to encompass integration of major technology components with new and updated business processes. Lockheed Martin will be responsible for ensuring successful integration of new and legacy technologies for dispatching police, responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, communication with police in the field, and the provision of new operations centres.

Ian Stopps, Chief Executive, Lockheed Martin UK Ltd. said: "We are delighted to have won the Metropolitan Police Service contract and see this as an opportunity to contribute to the implementation of a project that will result in a safer London. We consider the London Metropolitan Police Service to be one of the premier law enforcement organisations in the world and we are prepared to bring corporate expertise in systems integration and business transformation to ensure the provision of a world class C3i infrastructure for use by the police and citizens of London."

Ron Vucurevich, Vice President for Business Information Operations, Civil and Commercial, Lockheed Martin Mission Systems, commented: "With the modernised system, citizens who call the Police with emergencies will be assured of a more efficient dispatching of Police. Lockheed Martin is eager to support the MPS as a partner in this very important project - we look forward to helping the MPS attain their goals in terms of improving the safety of the citizens of London through effective and efficient delivery of police services."
