19 Nov 2002

BAE Systems has been selected by the U.S. Coast Guard to compete for engineering services under the Integrated Deepwater System (IDS) programme. The company's Applied Technologies business will participate in the program as a Government Services Administration (GSA) vendor and will bid on services that could total $10 million over the next five years.

Applied Technologies will provide a full range of professional engineering services to the IDS program office and integrated product teams. The company will support systems and subsystems acquisition, planning, budgeting, and contracting as well as program management requirements within the surface, air, C4ISR and logistics components of the program. The Coast Guard plans to purchase 91 ships, 35 fixed-wing aircraft, 34 helicopters and 76 unmanned surveillance aircraft. It also plans to upgrade 49 cutters, 93 helicopters and its command and control, communications, computer, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems.

Work will be performed by BAE Systems Applied Technologies employees located in Washington, D.C.

Bruce Hamilton, president of BAE Systems Applied Technologies, said, "We are extremely pleased to expand our core business and provide critical engineering services to the United States Coast Guard Deepwater Program for the 21st century."
