More Idaho soldiers return from service in Afghanistan
Another round of Idaho soldiers landed in their home state Saturday after an 18-month deployment to Afghanistan.
The troops, members of the 1-183 Aviation Battalion, were stationed overseas in the Afghani cities of Kandahar, Bhangra, and Solerno. They are among of 220 soldiers returning home within the next few weeks.
Denise Nellis of Nampa, who survived breast cancer, a resultant mastectomy and reconstructive surgery while her husband was gone, finally reunited with him Saturday.
While Alan Nellis was deployed, the family kept a Christmas tree in the living room standing over his unopened Christmas presents, along with Valentine’s Day cards and other mementos of special occasions.
The 1-183 Aviation Battalion deals with AH-64 Apache attack helicopters and UH-60 Blackhawk utility aircraft. According to GlobalSecurity.org, “the battalion continues to set the pace for Army National Guard aviation units across the country.”
