Feds Nix Tex. Blast Terror Claim

By Kenneth R. Bazinet

WASHINGTON - The feds dismissed claims yesterday by what were described as two "crackpot groups" that took credit for the deadly explosion at a Texas oil refinery.

"The FBI is not treating this like a terrorist attack," said Justice Department spokesman Bryan Sierra.

A group called Al Qaeda Organization for Holy War in the United States of America and another named Army of the Levant claimed responsibility for the explosion at the plant in Texas City, Tex., which killed 15 people.

Terrorism experts said the two groups that claimed responsibility for the Texas explosion were unknown.

"Both of these are new names," said John Pike, a security expert.
