National Guard combat units in Iraq, or on the way
Seven National Guard combat units are either in Iraq or on the way:
In Iraq:
-30th Enhanced Heavy Separate Brigade from North Carolina, last deployed in combat in World War II
-39th Infantry Brigade from Arkansas, last deployed in combat in World War II
-81st Armored Brigade from Washington, last deployed in combat in World War II
Getting ready for Iraq:
-278th Armored Cavalry Regiment from Tennessee, last deployed in combat in Korean War
-256th Infantry Brigade from Louisiana, activated for Desert Storm but did not deploy
-116th Armor Cavalry Brigade from Idaho, last deployed in combat in World War II
-42nd Infantry Division from New York, last deployed in combat in World War II
