Nuclear Equipment Remnants Of Libya's Weapons Program Ships Out

(Off Camera) Some dangerous cargo is en route, by ship, from Libya to an undisclosed location in the US tonight. It is the last remnants of Libya's of weapons of mass destruction, which it promised to dismantle or destroy. The story from ABC's Nancy Weiner.

(Voice Over) Long-range missiles from Libya are among the 500 metric tons of weapons-related equipment on the US-bound ship. The White House says the cargo also includes centrifuge parts from a Libyan uranium conversion facility.

This does demonstrate that when a country has made a decision to give up its nuclear weapons, it's something that can happen on a time scale of months, not years.

(Voice Over) Back in December, Libya's leader, Moammar Ghadafi, surprised the world by announcing he would abandon his efforts to acquire weapons of mass destruction and allow US inspectors to search Libyan weapons sites.

(Voice Over) Regarded as a rogue state after the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 and other terrorists acts, Libya has destroyed 3,300 non-operational chemical warheads over the past week. In return, the Bush Administration lifted a 23-year ban on Americans traveling to Libya.
