A NATION ON CALL

Washington has mobilized more than 280,000 troops from across the country, although not all have been sent to the Middle East. These are among the units that have received orders:

CALIFORNIA

* 60th Air Mobility Wing
Base: Travis Air Force Base (1)
Deployment: Air Force will not release details.

* 1st Marine Expeditionary Force
Base: Camp Pendleton (2)
Deployment: 11,000; 1,000 reported at Camp Commando in Kuwait.

* USS Constellation
Port: Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego (3)
Deployment: 5,630 last reported at Manama, Bahrain.

* USS Nimitz
Port: San Diego (3)
Deployment: About 8,000 in battle group en route to Persian Gulf region.

COLORADO

* 3rd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division
3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment
Base: Fort Carson (4)
Deployment: 15,000 soldiers are active; 11,000 of those received deployment orders.

FLORIDA
* 16th Special Operations Wing
Base: Hurlburt Field (5)
Deployment: Unknown Persian Gulf air base.

* 6th Air Mobility Wing
Base: MacDill Air Force Base (6)
Deployment: Air Force will not release details.

GEORGIA

* 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized)
Bases: Fort Stewart (7), Hunter Army Air Field (8) and Fort Benning (9)
Deployment: 15,000, includes 1st, 2nd and 3rd Brigades deployed to Kuwait.

* 116th Air Control Wing
Base: Robins Air Force Base (10)
Deployment: 1,100, mostly Air National Guard and Air Force. Air Force will not release location.

* 347th Rescue Wing
Base: Moody Air Force Base (11)
Deployment: Wing includes 71st Rescue Squadron. Air Force will not release details.

KANSAS

* 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division
Base: Fort Riley (12)
Deployment: About 3,500 soldiers received orders.

KENTUCKY

* 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault)
Base: Fort Campbell (13)
Deployment: 20,000. First soldiers arrived in Kuwait on March 3.

LOUISIANA

* 2nd Armored Cavalry
Base: Fort Polk (14)
Deployment: Personnel and location unknown.

MARYLAND

* USNS Comfort
Port: Baltimore (15)
Deployment: 361 at Diego Garcia, a U.S. air and naval base in the Indian Ocean.

MISSOURI

* B-2 Bomber Wing
Base: Whitman Air Force Base (16)
Deployment: Personnel and location unknown.

NEBRASKA

* 55th Wing
Base: Offutt Air Force Base (17)
Deployment: Wing includes eight squadrons. Location unknown.

NEVADA
* 11th and 15th reconnaissance squadrons
Base: Nellis Air Force Base (18)
Deployment: Part of the 57th Wing. Air Force will not release details.

NEW MEXICO
* 49th Fighter Wing
Base: Holloman Air Force Base (19)
Deployment: In Kuwait. Air Force will not release details.

NEW YORK
* 10th Mountain Division
Base: Fort Drum (20)
Deployment: Personnel and location unknown. Deployment affects companies A and B from 4th Battalion, part of the 10th Mountain Division's 31st Infantry Regiment, which has more than 250 soldiers.

NORTH CAROLINA
* 43rd Airlift Wing
Base: Pope Air Force Base (21)
Deployment: Includes 2nd and 41st airlift squadrons. Personnel and location unknown.

* 82nd Airborne Division
Base: Fort Bragg (21)
Deployment: 5,000 includes a brigade combat team. Location unknown.

* 4th Fighter Wing
Base: Seymour Johnson Air Force Base (22)
Deployment: Includes 333rd-336th fighter squadrons. Personnel and location unknown.

* 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade
Base: Camp Lejeune (23)
Deployment: More than 7,000, part of Amphibious Ready Group. Location unknown.

SOUTH DAKOTA
* 28th Bomb Wing
Base: Ellsworth Air Force Base (24)
Deployment: Includes 34th and 37th bomb squadrons. Personnel and location unknown.

TEXAS
* 1st Cavalry Division
Base: Fort Hood (25)
Deployment: 17,000, includes seven brigade-size units.

* 4th Infantry Division
Base: Fort Hood (25)
Deployment: About 12,500 are waiting to be deployed.

* 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command
Base: Fort Bliss (26)
Deployment: 1,100 to 1,200 deployed to Kuwait, including 35th and 108th air defense artillery brigades. 300 from 11th and 31st Army brigades also deployed.

* 7th Bomb Wing
Base: Dyess Air Force Base (27)
Deployment: B-1 Bomber support crews deployed Feb. 24. Personnel and location unknown. Bombers arrived in Guam on March 6.

VIRGINIA
* Coast Guard
Deployment: 600 on eight Island Class cutters. Location unknown.

* USS Harry S. Truman
Port: Norfolk Naval Air Station (28)
Deployment: About 6,000 deployed to Mediterranean Sea.

* USS Theodore Roosevelt
Port: Norfolk (28)
Personnel: 8,500, which includes Strike Fighter Squadron 201 based in Fort Worth, deployed to Mediterranean Sea.

* 1st Fighter Wing
Base: Langley Air Force Base (29)
Deployment: Includes the 27th, 71st and 94th fighter squadrons. Air Force will not release details.
