Experts Downplay Potential Impact Of Cyber Attack
Security experts are downplaying that the impact cyber terrorists might have on the country's power grids and communication networks, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The issue has been the subject of legislative hearings and more than 560 newspaper and magazine articles. The FBI warned about the possibility of online information being used by terrorists to launch additional attacks on the country, but experts contend that many international hackers are stealing information rather than attempting to shut down electrical utilities, release water from dams or engage in other dangerous acts of sabotage. John Pike, a weapons-systems analyst and director of Globalsecurity.org, a defense policy organization in Washington, stressed that terrorists use simple, direct methods for operations because they are less likely to fail.
