Digital Iraq
Commercial imagery companies map Iraq
Space Imaging and DigitalGlobe have been banging away collecting imagery of Iraq, presumably on behalf of NIMA. The director of central intelligence, George J. Tenet, has issued a new directive mandating the use of commercial high-resolution imagery to supplement classified "National Systems." The intelligence agencies will expand their use of satellite photography provided by private companies, freeing the government's own satellites for more specialized and secretive work. Imagery from commercial satellites such as DigitalGlobe and Space Imaging, would become the 'primary source of data used for government mapping' for the military and other agencies.
