Minister of Defence of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal participated in the ceremonies marking the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
A minute of silence was held, with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, government officials, and service members paying tribute to the warriors who gave their lives for Ukraine.
President Zelenskyy bestowed awards on defenders and their families, and presented battle flags to units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"Ukraine's military holds thousands of unique stories. Different lives are united by a shared responsibility to defend Ukraine and to protect what is most personal: loved ones, a home, childhood dreams, and plans for the future — a future where war has no place. Serving in the military demands an exceptional inner strength — a strength born from love for what is most precious. It is thanks to you that Ukraine stands and will continue to stand. It is thanks to you that a future without war is certain," the Minister of Defence said.
Denys Shmyhal also participated in a joint prayer for Ukrainian service members and for the free future of the Ukrainian people.
The Minister of Defence thanked all defenders for their strength and bravery, their courage and steadfastness, and their determined will to fight.
"Ukraine and Ukrainians desire peace more than anyone. And we seek a peace that will guarantee security and calm for many years to come," he said.
Denys Shmyhal also expressed gratitude to all who are bringing peace closer: the President of Ukraine, our diplomats, our American and European partners, and all people of goodwill.
"Today, we also pray for the wounded, remember those held in captivity and those missing in action, and stand with every family touched by this difficult war. I bow my head before the fallen Ukrainian warriors. May God bless Ukraine and protect all those who defend peace, security, and freedom," the Minister of Defence concluded.
