Today, Norway, Germany and Poland announced that they will fund a USD 500 million package of defence materiel for Ukraine sourced from the United States and delivered under the US-NATO Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative.
The deliveries will be coordinated by NATO, in part through the logistical operation NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU). The package includes air defence equipment, ammunition and other essential equipment.
'Critical equipment worth billions of US dollars has been funded by Allies since August. Much of this has already been delivered, and more is on the way. This equipment is extremely important as Ukraine enters the winter months. We must continue to provide Ukraine with the equipment and munitions it needs to defend itself today, achieve a lasting peace and deter any future aggression,' said Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide.
Support provided to Ukraine through the PURL mechanism complements other ongoing initiatives to assist Ukraine as well as a range of other crucial Allied initiatives. Ultimately, support to Ukraine is an investment in European security.
Arms deliveries through the PURL initiative form the basis for the defence of Ukrainian skies, just as Russia is intensifying its targeted attacks on energy infrastructure before the onset of winter.
PURL has proved to be an effective mechanism for maintaining a stable supply of US weapons which strengthens Ukraine's combat capability and, in turn, enhances the security of the entire European continent.
