China opposes unilateral sanctions without UN authorization, says FM over EC's plan to use frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine

In response to a media inquiry that the European Commission plans to propose a legal measure this week to use frozen Russian assets as loans for aiding Ukraine, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at Wednesday's press conference that China "consistently opposes unilateral sanctions that violate international law and lack authorization from the UN Security Council."
Lin noted that that all parties should foster a positive atmosphere and create favorable conditions for promoting talks and seeking a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, rather than doing the opposite.
