Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Ihor Zhovkva, held a briefing for Ambassadors of the Nordic-Baltic Eight countries (Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Finland, and Sweden).
Ihor Zhovkva expressed gratitude for the ongoing communication and coordination regarding support for Ukraine; he also provided an update on current diplomatic efforts to achieve peace and reliable security guarantees for our state within the framework of the Coalition of the Willing, led by the President of Ukraine in cooperation with other leaders.
Special attention was given to Ukraine's energy sector, which is repeatedly targeted by Russian strikes ahead of winter. The Deputy Head of the Office of the President stressed the importance of increasing support for Ukraine's energy system, including through the supply of equipment.
The parties discussed the implementation of the PURL initiative. This week, Finland announced its participation in the program, making all Nordic and Baltic countries members. Recently, Norway announced an additional contribution of nearly USD 200 million. In total, the Nordic-Baltic Eight countries have already allocated and pledged almost USD 750 million, with further contributions expected.
The briefing also addressed Ukraine's current needs, joint weapons production, and investment in the military-technical sector. Our country is working with partners to create export platforms for weapons in which Ukraine has a surplus.
In addition, the parties discussed Ukraine's European integration future and shared expectations regarding the outcomes of the European Council meeting scheduled for next week in Brussels.
