Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia regarding Russia's illegal and illegitimate elections in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine on 12-14 September.
We condemn and do not recognise the so-called Russian elections to local occupation authorities in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions of Ukraine, as well as in Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, illegally occupied and annexed by the Russian Federation.
Results of these sham elections are null and void. The Kremlin only delegitimizes its own political leadership and the legal system of Russia by this farce which has no relation to the rule of law and democratic procedures in line with international standards.
Estonia will never recognise the violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine through aggression, illegal occupation or sham elections. We reaffirm our steadfast and unwavering commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
