The SSU Counterintelligence has detained an enemy agent in Zaporizhzhia who was preparing a new series of russian air strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

His task was to find and transmit to the enemy the coordinates of substations that generate electricity for Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

The investigation established that the enemy accomplice was a 28-year-old graduate of Zaporizhzhia Electrical Engineering College. The GRU (russian military intelligence) recruited him through Telegram channels.

Following his handler's instructions, the agent got a job at a leading energy company in Zaporizhzhia to spy inside the enterprise.

The asset provided russians with intelligence on the consequences of their attacks on energy facilities and collected data on the restoration of the enterprise capacities after the strikes.

He also periodically travelled to Dnipropetrovsk region, seeking similar information about the functioning of the region's energy system.

When preparing his 'report,' the agent marked the geolocations of potential 'targets' on Google Maps and prepared a text description of each facility.

The SSU detained the mole and took action to protect Ukrainian facilities.

SSU investigators notified the perpetrator of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operational and investigative measures were carried out by the SSU Zaporizhzhia Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
