Commenting on reports that an official from the Taiwan island said that the island looks forward to re-establishing diplomatic ties with Honduras and has kept in touch with two presidential candidates, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday that the one-China principle is the political foundation and fundamental precondition for China-Honduras relations.
"Since the establishment of diplomatic ties more than two years ago, bilateral relations have advanced rapidly, with fruitful results across various fields. A China-assisted agricultural technology school has been completed, companies from the two sides have signed a white-shrimp purchase agreement of more than 10,000 tons, and Honduran tobacco has entered the Chinese market," Lin told a press briefing.
Lin noted that China's imports of Honduran coffee surged fourteen-fold year-on-year in 2024. China has also provided Honduras with coffee-growing greenhouses and planting toolkits, and delivered multiple batches of humanitarian aid in response to hurricanes, floods and other disasters. "Cooperation in human-resources training, government scholarships and tourism has further strengthened Honduras' long-term development capacity," he said.
Lin said these outcomes fully demonstrate that China-Honduras relations have brought tangible benefits to the Honduran people and serve the fundamental and long-term interests of both countries and their peoples. "Taiwan independence" separatist activities run counter to the trend of history and are destined to fail, the spokesperson added.
