In response to Taiwan regional authorities' claim that the mainland coast guard's patrols affect cross-Straits relations, spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council Zhang Han said on Wednesday that the DPP authorities have continued to adopt dangerous and reckless tactics against mainland fishermen, threatening their lives and property. They are the root cause of disrupting cross-Straits peace and stability and harming the interests of compatriots on both sides.

Recently, the Fujian coast guard carried out regular law enforcement patrols in the waters near Kinmen in accordance with the law. However, Taiwan regional authorities claimed that the Chinese mainland coast guard's patrols constitute "regular harassment" rather than law enforcement operations, alleging that this not only affects cross-Straits relations but also undermines regional peace and stability.

In response, spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office said that both sides of Taiwan Straits belong to one China, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China. The regular law enforcement patrols conducted by the China Coast Guard are not only a legitimate act to safeguard the normal navigation and operation order in relevant waters in accordance with the law, but also a necessary measure to protect the lives and property safety of fishermen on both sides of the Straits.

"The DPP authorities stubbornly adhere to the 'Taiwan independence' stance and have so far continued to adopt dangerous and reckless tactics against mainland fishermen, threatening their lives and property. They are the root cause of disrupting cross-Straits peace and stability and harming the interests and well-being of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits," Zhang noted.

Zhang urged the DPP authorities to immediately cease interfering with and undermining the normal operations of mainland fishermen, and stop provoking incidents and creating troubles.
