When asked to comment on DPP "legislator" Wang Shih-chien's recent remarks — including his "four conditions," such as using a "Taiwan passport instead of a mainland travel permit for Taiwan residents" and his claim that he would "be the last people in Taiwan to set foot on the mainland" when asked whether he would visit the mainland for exchanges, Zhang Han, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said that the mainland and Taiwan both belong to one China and that cross-Straits relations are not state-to-state relations.
Wang has been riding the popularity of the adapted viral song Meichuxi, or Good for Nothing, to gain online attention while making bombastic statements to stay in the spotlight. Such self-contradictory theatrics are truly "spineless," Zhang said.
A song lyric adapted from the remarks of Wang had gone viral on both sides of the Taiwan Straits for its catchy rhymes and upbeat tempo. The song is titled Meichuxi in Chinese, with lyrics derived from Wang's early remarks during a questioning session such as, "Should've been calm and in complete control, but now you're scrambling around in a fluster. Telling lies with a straight face, why are you choking up?"
