"Cambodia reaffirms adherence to one-China policy," stated the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Wednesday.
Also, in response to several media inquiries regarding Cambodia's views on the recent tension between China and Japan over the Taiwan question, the Cambodian ministry stated that it "wishes to emphasize that Cambodia strongly advocates for the efforts to maintain regional peace, stability and harmony, based on the principle of mutual respect and peaceful resolution of differences and disputes."
The statement said that "Cambodia resolutely adheres to the one-China policy and recognizes that the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole lawful government representing the whole of China, and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory."
Cambodia considers the Taiwan question an internal affair of the People's Republic of China, supports China's effort to achieve national reunification, while opposing any form of "Taiwan Independence," according to the statement.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent erroneous remarks on Taiwan have stirred tensions in bilateral relations with China. Takaichi claimed at a Diet meeting on November 7 that the Chinese mainland's "use of force on Taiwan" could constitute a "survival-threatening situation" for Japan. She refused to retract her remarks which imply the possibility of armed intervention in the Taiwan Straits.
Multiple Chinese ministries and government agencies have condemned the Japanese side's related moves and remarks, warning that Japan would face a resolute response if it dared to meddle in the Taiwan question, amid ongoing backlash at home and abroad triggered by the erroneous and provocative remarks of Takaichi.
