When commenting on a question about Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong summoning Japanese Ambassador to China Kenji Kanasugi on Thursday - a rare move in recent years, and about the reason behind China's insisting on making serious démarches to the Japanese Ambassador in person on this occasion, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Friday that the root cause of the issue lies in the fact that Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi made extremely wrong, highly dangerous, and deeply provocative remarks regarding Taiwan—and has refused to reflect on or retract them.
Such actions grossly interfere in China's internal affairs, seriously violate international law and the basic norms of international relations, severely undermine the post-war international order, gravely breach the one-China principle and the spirit of the four China-Japan political documents, damage the political foundation of China-Japan relations, and deeply hurt the feelings of the Chinese people, Lin said.
We have also noted that many politicians and people of insight within Japan have also issued warnings and criticisms about this, the spokesperson said, stressing that China is a peace-loving country that values credibility and honors its commitments, but on major issues concerning China's sovereignty and territorial integrity—its core interests—we will absolutely not make any compromise or concession.
No one should harbor the delusion that China will swallow the bitter fruit that harms its own interests. Anyone who attempts to challenge the bottom line of the Chinese people will inevitably be met with a head-on counterattack, and will inevitably crash head-on into the Great Wall of steel forged by 1.4 billion Chinese people, the spokesperson said.
Any force that dares to obstruct China's great cause of reunification is engaging in sheer delusion; it is like an ant trying to stop a chariot—and is doomed to fail, Lin said.
