In response to a Reuters inquiry on Wednesday regarding the US State Department's claim that the island of Taiwan must be allowed full and equal participation when China hosts the APEC next year, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that as the host of APEC 2026, China will actively fulfill its duties to ensure the smooth participation of all parties. "As for the participation of Chinese Taipei in the APEC, I have already made China's position clear," Mao added, according to the Paper.

Mao also responded to another question concerning the island of Taiwan's claim that a senior Fijian diplomat visited the island this week and met with a regional senior official. "China has always firmly opposed any form of official exchanges between countries having diplomatic relations with China and the Taiwan region," the spokesperson stressed. "The visit by the Fijian official to the Taiwan island seriously violated Fiji's political commitment to the one-China principle. China expressed strong dissatisfaction and has lodged solemn representations with Fiji. The Taiwan regional authorities' despicable acts will not succeed," said Mao, the Paper reported.
