In response to media inquiry about Taiwan regional official's remarks on Wednesday that China had set many "additional conditions" for Chinese Taipei's participation in next year's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said participating as a regional economy under the one-China principle and abiding by the terms and practices set forth in the relevant APEC MoU—this is the political prerequisite for Chinese Taipei's participation in APEC.

China's position on this issue is clear and firm, the spokesperson said.

Zhang Han, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, also said at Wednesday's regular press conference that as the host of next year's APEC activities, we will handle Chinese Taipei's participation in accordance with the one-China principle and the relevant provisions and practices of APEC's memorandum of understanding.

Zhang made the remarks when asked about the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in 2026, which will be held in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province and the debate in Taiwan island over whether it will be allowed to participate.
