On December 5, at the initiative of the Egyptian side, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration of the Arab Republic of Egypt Badr Abdelatty.
The discussion centred on preparations for the second ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, which is scheduled to take place in Cairo on December 19-20.
The ministers also reviewed current issues in bilateral cooperation, underscoring the importance of maintaining close coordination to deepen trade and economic ties between Russia and Egypt.
They exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, including developments in the Gaza Strip and other Palestinian territories, as well as around Lebanon and Syria. At Badr Abdelatty's request, the Russian minister also provided his assessment of recent developments related to the Ukrainian crisis.
