Russian Defence Minister: strengthening national defenсe forces and maintaining regional stability is priority for CIS member states' military departments

'We summarised the results of the implementation of the military cooperation concept over the past five years. Our interaction at this stage has focused on strengthening national defenсe forces and maintaining regional stability,' said Andrei Belousov at the closing part of the CIS Council of Defence Ministers meeting held in Almaty on Friday.
He noted that the session summarised the results of the implementation of the concept of military cooperation over the past five years as well as outlined promising plans for the further cooperation.
We have considered a set of issues connected with the further development of joint (combined) military systems including communications and combined air defence ones. We exchanged the experience of increasing the combat readiness of national defence forces, the Russian Defence Minister said.
In particular, he said, reports on the construction of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan and the direction of their development in modern conditions, on the implementation of control and assessment of NBC situation by Belarusian troops were heard and discussed.
'We have approved the plan of the CIS Defence Ministers Council for 2026,' said Andrei Belousov.
In addition, decisions have been signed on organising competitions in military-applied sports, improving metrological support, cooperation in the field of state radar identification as well as military personnel and financial issues, the Russian Defence Minister reported.
According to his assessment, 'the results of the event confirmed that the military cooperation in the format of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the activities of the Council of Defence Ministers have sustainable prospects for the development in a wide range of fields'.
