Pakistani forces kill seven militants, 12 militants surrender

Pakistani security forces Monday killed seven militants in the militancy-hit Swat valley in the country northwest in the ongoing offensive, the army said.
Several other militants were injured during an exchange of fire with security forces in various parts of Swat district, according to the army's Media Centre.
Five miscreants, including their local commander, were killed during exchange of fire with troops in Moragai and Shalkho Sar areas.
Two miscreants were killed in another exchange of fire in Kabal.
The weapons and ammunition of miscreants have also been destroyed.
Army Engineers in collaboration with National Highway Authority (NHA) are working round the clock to repair the damaged arched bridges near Sangota and Fiza Gat which were destroyed by the miscreants, the statement said. Repair work is likely to be completed within next 48 hours and traffic will be restored soon.
Twelve tribal militants surrendered to the authorities in Bajaur tribal Agency on Monday after they agreed to lay down their arms at a jirga or council of tribal elders, officials said.
The jirga of Salarazai tribes was held in Khar headquarters of Bajaur Agency and official sources confirmed that a dozen militants laid down their arms to the jirga tribe who were later handed over to the political authorities of the Bajaur Agency.
Another tribe Utmankhel also was held a jirga in their areas to hand over the local militants who laid down their arms to the local Administration.
Meanwhile Salarzai and Mamond tribes held separate anti-militants jirga in Bajaur Agency wherein important decisions were taken against the local militants.
On the other hand, security forces carried out strikes on militants' positions in different areas of Khar. However, there was no report of casualties.
Helicopter gunships carried out aerial surveillance in various parts of the volatile agency.
Meanwhile, most of the Afghan refugees are returning to their country on the second day of a three-day deadline given to them for leaving the Mamond tehsil of Bajaur Agency.
