When asked about reports that the new Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi who reportedly plans to increase Japan's defense spending, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated on Thursday that in recent years, Japan has significantly adjusted its security policy, steadily increased its defense budget year by year, continuously relaxed arms exports and sought breakthroughs in military capability development. These actions cannot but raise serious doubts among its Asian neighbors and the international community regarding whether Japan is truly committed to an exclusively defense-oriented policy and peaceful development, said the spokesperson.

At the regular press conference on Thursday, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that "Regarding the increasing defense expenditure of Japan, due to Japan's history of militarist aggression, Japan's military and security moves have always been closely watched by its Asian neighbors and the international community."

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. We urge Japan to deeply reflect on its history of aggression, adhere to the path of peace, and exercise caution in its words and deeds in the military and security fields to avoid further losing the trust of Asian neighbors and the international community, Guo said.
