Tehran, IRNA -- Commander of the Iranian Army's Naval Force, Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, says that while escorts were once limited to areas near Iran, the Navy now provides escorts for Iranian ships worldwide.

Speaking in a ceremony on Sunday, Rear Admiral Irani referred to Iran's maritime economy and the role of the Navy in this area, adding that escort missions for Iranian vessels are carried out consistently and powerfully in international waters.

Emphasizing both the soft and hard aspects of Iran's naval power, he said that Iranian naval task forces are currently participating in joint exercises, including one in the Far East and another off the coast of Africa.

Referring to the Navy's expanding capabilities, he confirmed that the "Khuzestan" warship, a sister vessel to the "Kordestan," will soon be commissioned. Once operational, the ship will enable Iran to conduct more extensive long-distance maritime missions, he added.

He highlighted that all nations can benefit from maritime resources, noting that Iran's naval strength enables it to safeguard and utilize these resources to support national interests.

The Navy commander also underscored the role of naval forces during the 12-day war imposed by the Zionist regime. "During the 12-day war, when we deployed sea-based surface-to-surface missiles with a range of 1,000 kilometers, the enemy withdrew to a distance of 1,400 kilometers from us. This emphasizes the significance of maritime power."
