Iran: New IAEA BoG resolution bids to compensate US and E3's defeat in Snapback

London, IRNA -- The permanent representative and ambassador of Iran to Vienna-based international organizations says the adoption of the political and non-constructive resolution against Iran's peaceful nuclear energy is an attempt by the US and the European troika to compensate for their defeat in the Snapback Mechanism in New York.

Reza Najafi made the remarks on Thursday following the adoption of the resolution by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors (BoG).

He said that the IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi's report clearly shows that the current situation is the direct outcome of US and Israeli attacks on Iranian peaceful nuclear facilities that were under the Agency's inspection.

Najafi also said that the IAEA has announced that, due to the safety consequences of the attacks, normal implementation of the Safeguards Agreement has become almost impossible and the Agency even had to withdraw its inspectors completely. Nevertheless, Iran has proved its good faith by agreeing to all the Agency's requests to resume verification activities and granting access to facilities that were not attacked.

He said that the US along with France, Britain, and Germany - collectively known as the European Troika or the E3 - try to suggest that everything is normal and that there have been no attacks on the facilities under Safeguards Agreement inspections containing nuclear materials.

He added that these four countries persist in their arrogant and irresponsible stance and unjustified demands, whereas the current situation is by no means normal.

He noted that the United States and three European countries have once again submitted a draft resolution that is clearly designed to exert excessive pressure on Iran and to promote a completely false and misleading narrative of the current situation.

He emphasized that the sponsors of this resolution have practically turned a blind eye and deaf ear to the issue. They have neither referred in the extraordinary sessions of the Board of Governors to the attacks carried out against nuclear facilities under the Agency's safeguards in Iran, nor have they looked at the official report of the Agency, which clearly recorded the Israeli and US attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities in June 2025.

These countries deliberately avoid any mention of their own aggressive actions because one of the aggressors is itself among the main supporters of the draft resolution and seeks to mislead member states and escape responsibility for its unlawful acts, he said.

Najafi said that when the United States and the E3 are unwilling, or due to their arrogant approach, unable to identify the root cause of the current situation, they are certainly in no position to dictate solutions for resolving the crisis.

He also reminded that the text presented was nothing more than a repetition of these countries' political positions, a distortion of safeguard obligations, and an attempt to raise the so-called Snapback Mechanism issue in the Agency, adding that with this resolution, the US and the E3 cannot compensate for the failure of their illegal Snapback move in New York.

Referring to the official statements of US President Donald Trump, Najafi stressed that Washington has not only openly claimed responsibility for the aggressive attacks against Iran, but even talks proudly about these brutal assaults, which show that these countries' claims about diplomacy are nothing but a cover for their unlawful and tension-creating actions.

He concluded that the Islamic Republic has always proven that, upon seeing goodwill, seriousness, and a constructive approach from the other side, it is fully prepared for meaningful engagement and advancing diplomacy.
